Farzana Ismail

Farzana Ismail has over 10 years experience in the life insurance industry. She joined the company in 2012 from a multinational actuarial consulting firm in London where she was a senior consulting actuary in the life insurance practice for over 8 years.

In Malaysia, she has undertaken the roles of Appointed Actuary for several companies, comprising both conventional insurance and takaful. She has also been involved in several mergers and acquisitions, both from the buyer and seller perspective. In addition, she has been involved in feasibility studies for companies entering the takaful market. She has also worked in various industry assignments such as industry mortality experience studies and the Protection Gap Study. She is currently in the Takaful Working Party in the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries.

In London, she worked on various assignments with life insurance companies such as statutory valuations, Individual Capital Assessments, mergers and acquisitions, block annuities transactions, and various aspects of Solvency II work. She had also led the takaful initiatives within Milliman London.

She has significant experience on annuities and longevity risks. She has advised clients ranging from insurance companies, pension scheme trustees and investment banks on issues on longevity risks, such transfers of blocks of annuities, developing longevity swaps and longevity bonds structures including feasibility studies and the potential capital impact under Solvency II.

Farzana has worked on client assignments in Europe, US and Asia Pacific. She has written and presented on several actuarial topics including longevity risk, Solvency II and Takaful. She is the co-author of the multi-contributory book called ‘Longevity Risk’ by RiskBooks.

She is a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries in the United Kingdom.
